Bertha Jorkins was a witch who worked for the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Games and Sports. She went missing in 1994 during a holiday to Albania, although her reputation for being stupid and forgetful meant that her head of department, Ludo Bagman, didn't think her disappearance was anything to worry about.
In actual fact, it was something to worry about as she had bumped into Peter Pettigrew who the Ministry believed to be dead. Peter persuaded Bertha to follow him and he led her straight to Lord Voldemort. Voldemort broke through a memory charm that had been placed on her by Barty Crouch Sr and learned that one of his death eaters, Barty Crouch Jr, was alive. Voldemort also discovered that the Triwizard Tournament would be held at Hogwarts that year. After discovering this, Voldemort killed Bertha.
