Julia Gillard became Australia's first female Prime Minister in June 2010.

In June 2013, she was removed from her position as leader of the ALP after the party's primary vote dropped below 30%. Interestingly, her successor was Kevin Rudd, the one whom she herself challenged successfully for the leadership on 24 June 2010.
