Untouchables
The Untouchables were a group of federal agents, led by Elliot Ness who worked to stop Al Capone's illegal alcohol industry. It was comprised of eleven men, half of which worked to catch Capone in tax evasion, and half of which worked against his alcohol industry, raiding his breweries and stills. The nickname "The Untouchables" comes from an attempt by Capone to bribe Ness and his team. The attempted bribery was rejected and used as publicity for Ness's team. They were known for being fearless and incorruptible, thus earning their name "The Untouchables." Ness and his men were the ones to eventually put Capone behind bars in 1931 for tax evasion.
They didn't...The Untouchables was a book written Oscar Fraley w/ Elliot Ness which lavishly embellished his (Ness) role in bringing Capone down. Ness had a big ego & probably wanted to make some money . The real person (s) that brought down Capone were Elmer Irey (Treasury agent) and George E. Q. Johnson (U.S. Attorney).
Elliot Ness was the leader of The Untouchables and is best known for bringing down Al Capone. He solved his cases by putting together special teams or squads of law enforcement officers. He was also a very irreproachable investigator.
