Anwar Sadat graduated from the Royal Military Academy in Cairo in nineteen thirty eight and was appointed in the Signal Corps. There, he met Gamal Abdel Nasser. They formed a secret group Free Officer's Movement. On July twenty third, nineteen fifty two, the group overthrew King Farouk. It was Anwar Sadat's assigned job to announce the defeat of King Farouk to the Egyptian people over radio networks. While Gamal Abdel Nasser was in presidency, Anwar Sadat was appointed "Minister Of State" in nineteen fifty four. In nineteen fifty nine, he got the position of "Secretary To The National Union". He was the president of the National Assembly from nineteen sixty to nineteen sixty eight and then vice president and member of the presidential council in nineteen sixty four. He was president of the council again in December nineteen sixty nine. After Gamal Abdel Nasser's death in nineteen seventy, Anwar Sadat took his place as the third president of Egypt on October fourteenth nineteen seventy. During Anwar Sadat's presidency (which lasted eleven years*) he made a peace treaty with Israel because he needed borders to be safe, he felt he needed to reclaim the land Israelis lost in the nineteen sixty seven and nineteen seventy three wars, and Anwar Sadat seems to have realized that Israel are too strong to be wiped out and in order for them to co-exist it was needed for them to make peace, and the final reason is that he felt the need to open up and make Egypt familiar with the rest of the world.
