Darth Vader's title was "Lord of the Sith"; he held no military rank, but was second only to the Emperor in the Empire, which allowed him to have full command of the Imperial Armed Forces whenever he wanted it.
Darth Bane is about 5,000 years older than Darth Vader, Darth Sidious' apprentice. Darth Plageuis is close to being as young a Sith as Vader. So, Darth Bane, the first sith in thousands of years in his time to have the "Darth"-title, is thousands of years older than Plageuis.
DARK LORD OF THE SITH!! muahahahahaha! Obi-Wan is my bff....
I would answer with yes - absolutely. Once he took on the title "Darth" and became an apprentice to Darth Sidious, he became a Sith Lord. Even the apprentices in the Rule of Two created by Darth Bane are Sith Lords. If you are a Sith after the time of Darth Bane - then you are a Sith Lord whether you are the master or the apprentice. Hope this helps! =)
Darth is the traditional title of a Sith Lord or Master. The reason for the use of Darth is partially because it's a derivative of an old forgotten language. It basically means "dark" or "death". It was also once banned by Lord Kaan's brotherhood of darkness because it represented too much competition within the Sith.
There is no canonical references that explain who Darth Maul originally was. He was taken from him home planet of Iridonia and trained as a Sith by Darth Sidious. He was never a Jedi, and as he gave up his former identity to take the Sith title of 'Darth' his former identity is irrelevant, his tattoos indicate his loyalty to the Sith order. There are popular fan-fiction storied that identify Darth Maul's original name, but these stories are not licensed by Lucasfilm, and are therefore NOT official Star Wars cannon. Until Lucasfilm authorizes a book about Darth Maul's origin it will remain a mystery.
The first Sith King was Dathka Graush, but the first Sith Lord the title 'Darth' was Darth Revan.
The significance of the darth title in Star Wars lore can be found on Wikipedia. Darth Maul would be an example of one of the names that can be found which is a name that is given to certain Sith Lords.
Darth is a title used by the sith, almost all the sith have a name that starts with "darth". --Update-- Depending on what era it is in and what that person has accomplished, not EVERY sith becomes a Darth, some are merely Lords.
There are many contenders for the title of worst "bad guy" character, as it is subjective. However, characters like Darth Vader from Star Wars or Voldemort from Harry Potter are often seen as iconic and memorable examples of villainy.
