The Trojan War
If world war one had not happened then I don't think that world war two would have happened. Sometimes you have to ask yourself: What did it achieve? If you can't come up with an good answer then there was almost no point in the world war one. If world war one had not happened then there would probably not have been a world war two!
Ernest Hemingway served as an ambulance driver in World War I.

There were many poet-soldiers in World War 1. My personal favourite is Seigfried Sassoon. Others were John McCrae, Laurence Binyon, Rupert Brooke, Wilfred Owen. All of these men served bravely in the trenches. Another famous poet of WW1 was Rudyard Kipling whose son Jack died in the trench warfare.
Poppies became the symbol of sacrifice during World War 1 and the publishing of the poem by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae of the Canadian Army. Follow the link below to read the poem and a short history of how it came about.

World War 1
The carnage and butchery of the First World War manifested itself into world literature and poetry. The pains witnessed at Flanders were described by the Canadian poet John McCrae. Yes, World War I saw significant fighting in Flanders Field, which is located in Belgium. The region was the site of several major battles, including the Second Battle of Ypres and the Battle of Passchendaele, characterized by trench warfare and heavy casualties. The term "Flanders Fields" is famously associated with the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae, which reflects on the loss of life during the war in that area.
