During WWII, Joseph Stalin was the main ruling figure in Russia (CCCP). He was the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee from 1922 (at the time, Russia only had 1 political party) until his death in 1953. In the years following Lenin's death in 1924, he rose to become the leader of the Soviet Union. Stalin's main competitors were Kameney, Zinoviey, and Trotsky. The battle of power was over when they were all removed from the Central Committee and then later from the party itself! He remained in power until his death, 5 March 1953, mostly believed to be due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
