Major John André was a British intelligence officer during the American Revolutionary War and became romantically involved with Peggy Shippen, the daughter of a wealthy Pennsylvania loyalist. Their relationship developed while André was stationed in Philadelphia, and Peggy played a role in facilitating his communication with Benedict Arnold, ultimately leading to Arnold's betrayal of the American cause. André's charm and social standing captivated Peggy, and their connection was marked by both personal affection and political intrigue. Their affair has often been viewed as a significant element in the narrative of loyalty and treason during the war.
Peggy Guggenheim had three children: a daughter, Pegeen Vail Guggenheim, and two sons, John and Laurence. Pegeen was her only child with her first husband, while John and Laurence were from her relationship with her second husband, the artist Max Ernst.
There is no concrete historical evidence to support the claim that John Randolph had an affair with Peggy Eaton. While Randolph was known for his romantic entanglements, the rumors specifically linking him to Peggy Eaton, the wife of Secretary of War John Eaton, appear to be largely speculative. The Eaton affair became a significant scandal during Andrew Jackson's presidency, but Randolph's involvement is not well-documented. Overall, it remains an uncertain aspect of their lives.

Major John Andre
Because it was Peggy who persuaded Arnold to abandon the American cause and defect to the British side; his first overtures to them were just one week after their wedding. And his contact was Major John Andre, a former suitor of Peggy's. One historian said,"Had Arnold died at Saratoga, his name & reputation today would be scarcely less honoured than George Washington himself." The extent of Peggy's complicity was unknown until about 25 years ago when her friend Theodora Prevost's (Aaron Burr's wife) letters were published. Peggy was a master of duplicity and staged this hilarious scene at West Point pretending to be insane the morning their plot was discovered and Arnold had to flee to a British ship to avoid capture. Washington totally bought it and indignantly added 'Betraying his trusting young wife' to Arnold's list of crimes.
They were spies.

Benedict Arnold's contact with plans concealed in his boots about the West Point was Major John Andre. Andre, a British officer, was working as a spy and liaising with Arnold to betray the American fort at West Point. Andre was captured by Patriots and subsequently hanged for his role in the plot.
