The Royal Christmas Message is a broadcast made by Britainâ??s sovereign to all the subjects in the realm. The tradition began in 1932 with Queen Elizabeth IIâ??s father, George V. on the BBC. Today it is broadcast via internet, television and radio.
From 1952, the Queen's Christmas message has been televised in some form. From 1952 (her first message) it was broadcast in addition to radio on TV with sound only. In 1957, the first full television broadcast of the message was made.

After her Accession on 6 February 1952, The Queen broadcast her first Christmas Message live on the radio from her study at Sandringham, Norfolk. You will note it is not known as a Christmas holiday message it is a Christmas message As the head of the church of England it would be unlikely for her to refer to Christmas as a holiday.
