Who was the wolf in Harry Potter 3?

By wolf do you mean the werewolf that chased Harry and Hermione through the forest? If you do, that was a werewolf, not a wolf. And it has Remus Lupin. If you mean the black wolf fighting the werewolf, that was Sirius Black, Harry Potter's godfather.

Remus Lupin is a werewolf; Snape helped him (despite their strained relation) by providing a potion that reduced the effects of the transformation or something like that. On the night in question, Lupin had forgotten to take the potion.

Remus Lupin. Remus Lupin, starring in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban. He was bitten by a werewolf when he was a young boy, and gained a terrible disease. Luckily, when he was a studen at Hogwarts, Remus had 3 other friends there to help him. One was James Potter (Harry's dad), another Sirus Black (Harry's godfather who was wrongly accused), and Peter Pettigrew (a person who caused Sirus to be wrongly accused). They were Amiguses (people who can change into cetain animals at will), and they were there to help Remus with his terrible disease. They'd have to hide him in the Shieking Shack (a place people thought was haunted by ghouls because of the terrible shieks). The Shrieking Shack got its name by the screams coming out of it, but those screams were actually caused by Remus, because turning into a werewolf is very painful. They were not allowed to go outside the grounds of Hogwarts, so they found out there was a secret passage in the Whomping WIllow (a vicious tree) that led to the shack.
