The plate is the thing the tributes stand on during the final countdown to the start of the hunger games. If they step off it before they are supposed to they get blown up by the mines planted around it.
First off, Prim doesn't go into the Hunger Games. Katniss takes her place in the drawing. So technically Prim does live but she isn't in the Hunger Games.

There is none. It is facist dystopian society. There could be a little but of an allegory to the way the united states incarcerates and executes its own people without proper evidence, but it is not likely. I, however, would be more woried that you would waste your time reading crap teen fiction that is a total rip off of Battle Royale (which is actually a good book) and are asking questions online about its philosophy.
I have read both, and the sequel to the hunger games. They are completely different. The giver is about a society that is basically shut off from the other world (or so i guessed). the hunger games is about a girl that lives in a district ( the world is controlled by one government and everyone lives in a specified district) and takes the place of he brother to compete in survival games. If you win, you become rich and can feed you district and if you lose, well then that means your dead. I will not tell the end to either, as you must read for yourself and I am also on my iPod. So goodluck If you have a teat or something.
The Hunger Games and Battle Royale have a similar plot, but The Hunger Games is not a rip off. Here are some differences posted by our contributors:First of all, The Hunger Games is set in the future. Battle Royale is not.Battle Royale's "tributes" are captured and taken, the tributes in The Hunger Games are chosen. The Hunger Games can last longer than a day, Battle Royale's battles to the death do not.
Yes, it is a Japanese movie called "Battle Royale", but you're better off just waiting for the movie to come out.

The Hunger Games were created to "teach" the districts that an uprising was impossible to pull off after the first one failed. They also used it to keep the Capitol entertained.

In the first Hunger Games--or the first book of the trilogy, because this is the Seventy-Fourth Games--Katniss and Peeta are sent to the Capitol to train, be interviewed, and become prepped before being shipped off to the arena.
