Why aren't Kiara Maid Marian or Tiger Lily considered Disney princesses?

Kiara (Lion King 2) is not considered an official princess because she is from a sequel and sequel princesses like Ariel's daughter are not in the line up. Kiara is also an animal and Nala, Atta, Dot, and Faline are not considered in the Disney Princess lineup.

Maid Marian is not a princess. She is a Lady, a cousin of the king. She is not a princess because her parents are not the King and Queen and she never marries into royalty.

Tiger Lily is a princess by birth and should be in the Disney lineup however she is not as popular as the more girly princesses.
