He can, and will, be King upon the death of Queen Elizabeth. Or if Queen Elizabeth abdicates the throne then Charles will become King. That's the simple answer, although there are many opinions on why Charles should not inherit the throne.
More information
Charles will not become the King of England - this title has not existed since 1707.
If he becomes King it he will be King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Charles will NOT become king, although the throne will passed to one of his sons.
Yes I do think he would. Although he is much more active in world problems etc, i wouldn't think this would be a bad thing, he openly supports green issues, and openly supports equality. So I do think he would be a good king.
Prince Charles will not be king because he went beyond the laws of the British...twice
I wish I didn't have to say this, but he is becoming king (unfortunately).
Death
When Diana died he overruled the palace who ruled that Diana was no longer a member of the Royal Family,so her funeral arrangements belonged to her blood relatives in Paris, Charles insisted that, as the mother of the future king (her son William), she be given a formal royal funeral; so a new category of formal funeral was especially created for her. EVERYONE Agrees this was a good and legitimate thing to do.
However...Marriage to Camilla
The marriage of Charles and Diana was formally ended in divorce on 28 August 1996.
The wedding made Charles the first member of the Royal Family to have a civil, rather than religious, wedding in England, which could put the succession of the throne in jeopardy.
He not only can indeed become king, but he is next in line for the throne. If the current Queen dies or abdicates, he will become King unless he refuses.
Because the Queen is still alive!
Prince Charles is next in line. Considering that Queen Elizabeth is now in her eighties, and Charles is in his sixties, there is a possibility, however, remote, that Charles will die before becoming king. In that event, Charles' first-born son, Prince William, will become king.
Charles the first . The above does not answer the question. Charles I was executed in 1649 and England became a 'Commonwealth' under Oliver Cromwell. In 1660, Charles' son was invited back to England to become Charles II, England having become tired of the Commonwealth.
If you're talking about the UK, there have been two Queen Elizabeths (The first one was only queen of England and Wales, not Scotland or Ireland). They both had only one mother each. Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn was Henry's second wife. She was executed in 1536 when Elizabeth was two years old. Queen Elizabeth II was the daughter of King George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Known as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. She died in her sleep on 2002 aged 101 years.
After Queen Elizabeth died, James the VII of Scotland became James I of England. After him, his son Charles I became king. Charles was executed and Oliver Cromwell took over.
Prince Charles will become King when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, dies.
Charles II was a king of England.
Prince Charles - the future King Charles III
She was a good queen and king Charles isn't as good. Also, King Charles is stupid for cheating on Diana, RIP Diana 🕊
King Charles 1st
King Charles II of England was the son of King Charles I and his wife and Queen Consort Henrietta Maria of France.
King Charles I succeeded King James I of England (who was also King James VI of Scotland).
Queen Henrietta Maria (Queen Mary is gay LOL IM IN SCHOOL).The charter that Lord Baltimore received in 1632 from King Charles I of England specified a name for the new colony. It was to be called Maryland to honor King Charles' wife Queen Henrietta Maria (Queen Mary).
Queen Elizabeths the 1st's brother was King Edward the 6th. Who dies at the age of 16 after being king.
Henrietta Maria or Mary of England, the Queen Consort of King Charles I.
When his mother Queen Elizabeth II dies, her eldest son Prince Charles, will become king of the United Kingdom (which includes England).
England has no king, it has a queen
When (if) Charles comes to the throne after his Mother Queen Elizabeth passes away, he will be king regnant and his wife Camilla will be queen consort. Buckingham Palace has indicated that when (and if) Charles ascends the throne, Camilla shall be styled Princess Consort. Therefore a King and Queen may not occur until Charles son The Duke of Cambridge and his wife the Duchess take the throne.
