Why did Prince Philip not become king when he married Queen Elizabeth?

According to Wikipedia:
When the Earl and Countess of Wessex married they didn't want their children to go through the burdens of having the title's Princes or Princesses with the style Royal Highness, but rather as the children of an Earl.[8] So their children are title James, Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Windsor.

∙ 13y agoPrince Phillip is Prince, simply because he is not the heir to the throne. Queen Elizabeth was the heir, and so she gets the title 'Queen'. Prince Phillip is simply the husband of a monarch.
