One becomes a reigning monarch, a sovereign, by inheriting that position from the former sovereign according to certain rules of primogeniture. Elizabeth II became queen upon the death of her father, King George VI because she was the oldest child and had no brothers. If she had had a brother, even a younger one, he would have become king. As it is she, being the oldest daughter, became queen. When a king is married his wife becomes queen simply by virtue of being his wife but she is only the queen consort, queen by virtue of being the consort of the king. She is not the sovereign. Elizabeth on the other hand, because she inherited the position, is the sovereign which is a very different thing. There is no such thing as a king consort. A man is either king, the reigning sovereign, or he is not. Generally when a man marries a queen he is accorded the title of prince, that is prince consort. Elizabeth is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip is related to the royal family of Denmark, the former royal family of Greece, and several royal families of Germany. He is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg. Styled a prince at birth, he renounced his royal titles before he married Princess Elizabeth. Her father created him Duke of Edinburgh and gave him several other titles the day before the wedding.

Prince Philip is referred to as the Prince Consort on occasion when the fact that he is married to Queen Elizabeth II is not assumed to be known to all. He is typically referred to as the Duke of Edinburgh. For example, a photograph of the two would be titled "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh". It should also be noted that the name of the dynasty did not change as it did when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert because he was of a different royal lineage. Since HM Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are cousins, both descendants of Queen Victoria, the name of the dynasty did not change. HM Queen Elizabeth II is descended from Victoria's eldest son; Prince Philip is descended from Victoria's second daughter. (Although the name of the dynasty has changed twice as a response to WWI and WWII to distance themselves from Prince Albert's Saxe Coburg Gotha German lineage. Windsor was arbitrarily chosen after the name of the oldest occupied castle and Royal residence not only in Britain but in Europe. Prince Philip's family surname had been changed from Battenburg to Mountbatten).

Because she never married

She is married! Because he is Prince Consort; that is, he married the heir to the British throne but was not himself an heir to that throne but simply the husband of the future monarch.

There are several reasons why Prince Phillip is a Prince and not King of England. One is because it is Elizabeth who was the heir to the throne and not him. The second is because when they got married some of the Queens advisors did not like his Uncle Louis Montbatten. A third reason would be that he was born in Greece and was a Prince of Greece and Denmark.

Because the title 'King' outranks the title of 'Queen'. Elizabeth is Queen Regnant, meaning she is not Queen through marriage etc... but Queen in her own right. Phillip is not a King in his own right, and therefore he is given the lesser title of 'Prince Consort'.

Queen Elizabeth II is the heir to the house of Windsor, and hence inheritor of the monarchy; Prince Philip is not descended from the house of Windsor, and is not in the line of succession to the throne.

When a female is next in line to the throne, her husband doesn't automatically become king but when a male becomes king, his wife automatically becomes queen except in a morganatic marriage.

Not necessarily. Queen Elizabeth II's husband is Phillip Mountbatten. He is a prince, not a king. When a Queen regnant marries her husband he is not given the title 'King' or he would outrank her.

Was the mother of Queen Elizabeth II ever Queen?

Yes, she was . Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was Queen when her husband King George Vl reigned, from 1936 to 1952.

Why wasn't the mother of Queen Elizabeth II Queen?

The mother of Queen Elizabeth II -- also Queen Elizabeth -- was the wife of a reigning monarch, King George VI. Her standing depended on her being married to the king. She had no constitutional monarchical duties. Queen Elizabeth II is the reigning monarch. She comes to the throne as the daughter of the king. Since there was a previous reigning monarch by the name of Elizabeth, this queen gets the number II (2).

Why Elizabeth's II mother couldn't be queen any more after her husband died?

The former Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon continued to enjoy the rank and style of Queen after the death of her husband, King George VI. The Queen Mother, however, was not born into the Royal Family; she married into it. Thus she could never inherit the title of Queen Regnant - one who reigns as queen. The Queen Mother's title was Queen Consort - the wife of a king: a "Mrs. King." King George's and Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, was born into the Royal Family and did inherit the title of Queen Regnant.

How did Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon wife of King George VI become known as queen?

She had her coronation along with her husband King George VI on December 11 1936 and was proclaimed Her Majesty the Queenand when the King died in 1956 she became the Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother as mother of the monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

Was the queen mother ever queen?

Upon the death of her husband, George VI (the present Queen's father). Princess Elizabeth accended to the British Throne as Queen Elizabeth II. Since then we have known her as the Queen Mother.

Who was Queen Elizabeth 2nd mum?

The mother of Queen Elizabeth II was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon(4 August 1900 - 30 March 2002) who was the Queen consort of King George VI from 1936 until her husband's death in 1952, after which she was known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, to avoid confusion with her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

There is no king in englandwhat is the reason for this?

There is no King of England because at present the monarch is a Queen (Queen Elizabeth II). If HRH Queen Elizabeth II's parents, George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, had had a son, as opposed to two daughters, that son would have been the monarch and therefore a king of England. The Queen's husband, Prince Philip, is not a King because he is not a descendant of the British Royal Family, merely the husband of one. If HRH Queen Elizabeth's oldest son, Prince Charles, succeeds to the throne after her, he shall be a Kind of England, as eventually would his son Prince William.
