Why do they call Rube Goldberg machines by that name?

Rube goldberg is a term used to describe any machine that uses a round about way, and many unnessary jury rigged components from other objects to accomplish a task that was usually very simple and easily accomplished in another, much simpler way.

originated the concept of these contraptions and drew them in his Cartoons.

Robe Goldberg was a US cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer and inventor. He lived from 1883 to 1970. He drew a series of cartoons that highlighted strange contraptions that ended up doing simple things in convoluted ways. Any similar cartoons or physical devices that do the similar things are typically called Rube Goldberg machines in deference to him.
