Why does Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender end up with Aang?

Throughout the series, Aang and Katara became very close. They kissed during the episode "Cave of Two Lovers", while they were alone and needed to find a way out of the cave.
They also kissed before the first part of "The Day of Black Sun" invasion.
During the episode "The Ember Island Players", Aang told Katara that he really liked her, and she did not know what to say because she was more concerned about the fate of the world at the moment instead of her personal relationship with Aang. However, at the end, after the world was saved, she kissed Aang to show that she did like him back and was interested in having that kind of relationship.

and than again in the very last episode
