Mary Tudor or Mary I was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine of Aragon.

She became queen of England at the age of 36 and was called "Bloody Mary" because of her zero tolerance for other religions than catholism.

Mary Tudor is important to world history, as any monarch is, because it allows us to have a snapshot of that country during those years. However, specifically to Mary Tudor, she was important to world history because of her strong Roman Catholic links to other countries. In England she persecuted Protestants famously burning many at the stake, landing her the nick name "Bloody Mary", thus upseting Protestant countries such as the German Princedoms (modern Germany) and the Netherlands. In these countries universities and such had influenced the new and growing Protestant Churches, more and more with extreme Lutheran backgrounds. She was also linked with Catholic countries, firstly by her faith - she was a devout Catholic following her mother Catherine of Aragon's (former wife of Henry VII and Queen of England) footsteps. She was married to Phillip II of Spain so through that and her mothers relations (her uncle was the Holy Roman Emperor) was linked to thoroughly Catholic Spain. Her younger brother Edward, who had been the monarch before her, was of completely different religious ilk, he was a devout lutheran protestant who had carried on Henry's brake from the Pope in Rome. Mary reconciled England with the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope, making the Pope head of the Church in England again rather than the monarch. This connected England and Mary Tudor with Roman Catholic worldwide, indeed it was her connections with other countries through relations and alliances that made her important to worldwide history.
