The City of David
Two cites in the bible are know as the city of David. The first was a Canaanite city which David captured and renamed it City of David in his 6th year of his reign, later it was renamed Jerusalem. The second city in the Bible was Bethlehem, here Jesus was born. It was called that because King David's reign was forever (in Christ) or the everlasting kingdom which was established by Christ at David's anointing by Samuel. Source is found in Psalms.
It was called the City of David (David the king of Judea was born in Bethlehem), also it was called Afrata (Bethlehem Afrata) in the old testament, also it was called in the Aramic Language Bet Lekhem (the same Bet Lehem and then to BETHLEHEM)
Jerusalem or Yerushalayim is also known as the City of David. When King David purchased the city from the Jebusites, he named it the City of David.

There are two reasons why Bethlehem is called the city of David. #1. Bethlehem is called the "city of David" (Luke 2:4,11), because it was David's birthplace and early home (1Samuel 17:12). #2. David took from the Jebusites the fortress of Mount Zion. He "dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David"(1 Chronicles 11:7). This was the name afterwards given to the castle and royal palace on Mount Zion, as distinguished from Jerusalem generally (1 Kings 3:1; 8:1), It was on the southwest side of Jerusalem, opposite the temple mount, with which it was connected by a bridge over the Tyropoeon valley.
