Why is queen Elizabeth considered one of the greatest rulers in England's history?

The answer is subjective, but virtually everyone would at least put her in the top three. I think she is both the British Monarchy's acme, and the Beginning of Its End. Her reign was an unprecendented period of personal power and success, largely through the charisma of Elizabeth herself. Under Elizabeth, England took its place as one of the leaders of the world, but that success and prosperity also contributed to the changes which heralded the gradual diminution of monarchical power. Because of Elizabeth's personal popularity and political savvy, she was able to avoid most of the problems faced by her successors. But Elizabeth had to sometimes appeal to Parliament for funding to carry out her policies, and their approval wasn't always easily achieved. When her successors on the throne lacked her advantages, the conflicts between Parliament and the monarch became more frequent and rancorous, leading to the Civil War less than half a century after Elizabeth's death. And while the monarchy was restored, the kings and queens who followed had much less power than she did.

Elizabeth got a better education than other girls at that time. She learnd about literary humaniores rhetoric, history and moral philosophy. Elizabeth had the opinion that people with different religions were all her people and she could never let people die because of her religious belief.

Depend from which side point of views. For the Roman Catholic in those days she was the heretic queen; but for the protestant she was their hero. Despite all the religious conflicts, she was one of England best ruler, for she brought fortune to a country that was consider poor (compare to other superpowers such as France, Spain, or Portugal) during that era. Elizabeth the I was daughter of Henry the VIII, and her sister was Mary I of England. So when Mary died she was the 1st in line to the throne.

Elizabeth II, was never supposed to be Queen, but Henry 8th, I think, wanted to marry a divorced lady in America. So the Throne was handed over to his brother Albert*, Who became George VI. When he died his daughter Elizabeth took over the throne.
