∙ 8y agoConstitutions are normally adopted first, and then arrangements are made to place them into effect a short time later (in the US, it required ratification). In India, the following date January 26 was deliberately chosen to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Purna Swaraj (complete self-rule) "Declaration of Independence" in 1930, so that both events are commemorated on the same day: the declaration of the free republic and its actual establishment.
