Assuming CRT type display then when a black part is shown then if you just look at the black part with the rest of the picture covered or sheilded then you will see that the black is still grey or same as when tube is not illuminated. Bottom line-- no such thing as black on screen , only black compared to rest of picture ! I invite you to try it !
