Metal is a good conductor of heat. Plastic is a poor conductor of heat. On a hot day the plastic spoon may stop you scalding your mouth if it is left out in the sun.

Even the animals that don't eat vegetation (insect eating birds, lions, etc.) would perish since their prey depends on vegetation for food. Also, with no trees to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, there would be a serious oxygen shortage, which is also necessary to sustain plant, animal and human life.
