Democritus said that everything was composed of atoms which are physically indivisible. They are indestructible, have empty space in between them, and there are infinite kinds of different shape and size.

it was the most simple of the models, pretty much he believed that there were atoms, only they were small indivisible spheres, with no internal structure, or nucleus/electron shell, or charge, but it was just a theory that wasn't scientifically proven. Thomas Dalton later "proved" it using the scientific method. now, we see the structure as completely different, with the electron cloud, internal nucleus, positive/negative charge, and the whole shi-bang bang, whatever that means. , i just learned about it a month or so ago.
