A full barb represents 10 knots, a half barb represents 5 knots, and a flag represents 50 knots. You add the numbers represented by the number of full and half barbs. Thus 2 full barbs and 1 half barb represents a 25 knot wind. To convert knots to MPH multiply the knots by a factor of 1.15.
