"Thew" is an archaic word meaning "personal quality, virtue" or (usually in the plural) "muscle, strength." Few would use it in a sentence nowadays. Here's an example from the poetry of Tennyson:

And I myself, who sat apart

And watched them, waxed in every limb;

I felt the thews of Anakim,

The pulses of a Titan's heart.
