The Question is limited to public opinion. Overall however, the N2 from Port E to East London is relatively safe because the roads are maintained and because of the volume of cars, no one dares to cross the road. However, from East London to Umtata, once enters some of the most undeveloped land in Africa, and the land is rough, not well maintained, and the less volume of traffic might increase insecurity. However even this road is relativly safe. Between Umtata and Kokstad, you enter traditional Xhosa homeland and many people camp on the side of the roads, lastly, from kokstad to Margate, it becomes safer, and more civilization is found once you read the coast. Overall the journey is safe, because you will be on a main road. However, one should remember that if you wish to stop and rest or make a pitstop, it is recommened to do so before you go past Umtata because the people in these areas have little money and will shoot.
