Translucent.

Transparent means you can see through it, like glass. Opaque means you can't see through it at all, like brick walls. Translucent means that some light can pass through it, but you can't actually see what's on the other side. If you held a flashlight underneath a drum, you'd be able to see the light through the skin, but you couldn't actually see what was in there.

Obviously it is clearly translucent.

Try shining a torch through your fingernail and you will notice you can see the light pass through your nail.

What does it mean when you have translucent skin?

Translucent skin is when your skin becomes a little more "see through" than usual. If you have veins that are very visible, then that means that your skin is sort of transparent, especially in white people. There are several causes, but one on the top of my head is Cushing's syndrome, and that is related to a condition called Hypercortisolism-high amounts of cortisol which is a hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex in our adrenal glands. Anemia is also thought to be another cause. I hope this is beneficial.

Is wool transparent?

Wool per se is probably not transparent. Wool has been spun from cleaned, sorted and carded fleece. You may be able to flatten a length of yarn so that it is translucent.Fleece may also be translucent because it is made up of lengths of 'hair' that grows from the skin of fleece-bearing animals.

Are clouds transparent or translucent?

Skin is semi transparent. Light can pass through the skin / epidermis reasonably well, but doesn't reflect in a clean way, meaning that the light scatters. It can then pass into the dermis layer, but tends not to be able to pass into the subcutanious layer. If you place a finger close to a strong light, you will will light shining through the skin (you won't see bones though!). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transillumination
