In 1889, Hugo De Vries published his book Intracellular Pangenesis in which he suggested that different characters are caused by different inherited particles which he called pangenes. This idea was based on a modified version of the theory of pangenesis first put forward by Charles Darwin in 1868. The word gene was introduced by Wilhelm Johannsen in 1909, in a book called Elemente der exakten Erblichkeitslehre. He also introduced the terms genotype(the genetic makeup of an individual) and phenotype (the observable features of an individual). De Vries (1848 - 1935) was a Dutch botanist and one of the first geneticists. Johannsen (1857 - 1927) was a Danish botanist, plant physiologist and geneticist. The Greek word átomos (ἄτομος) was first used by the philosopher Democritus who lived around 450 BCE. The modern use of the word goes back to the beginnings of the science of chemistry in the mid 17th cent. It's first usage (as meaning a very small particle) outside of scientific journals and into the mainstream goes back at least as early as 1796 when the word is found in newspapers of the time. Gene reacts with fear to the word "psycho" because he is worried that Leper's mental instability might lead to trouble or put their friendship at risk. Gene is already feeling guilty for the accident that caused Leper to change, so hearing Leper use that word makes him anxious about the situation worsening.

You isolate the gene in genetic engineering by first locating the gene you wish to be isolated. Then you use a restrictive enzyme to isolate it, and lastly take the gene out
Yes, "gene" is a root word derived from the Greek word "genos," meaning type or race.

The first step in inserting a new gene into a bacterium is to isolate the gene of interest and prepare it for insertion. This can involve cutting the gene with restriction enzymes and ligating it into a vector, which is a piece of DNA that can deliver the gene into the bacterium.
The first Indian gene to be isolated was the RYR1 gene, which was identified in 2001. This gene is associated with a muscle disorder called central core disease.
