First of all to correct . The area is NOT 14 feet , that is a liner measurement, but 14 sq.ft. (square feet)
#Hence
A = lb = 14 sq.fr.
P = 2( l + b) = 18ft.
b = 14/l &
l + b = 9
Substitute
(14/l) + l = 9
Multiply though by 'l'
14 + l^2 = 9l
l^2 - 9l + 14 = 0
Factor
( l - 7)(l - 2) = 0
Hence l = 7 ft. and l = 2ft
Common sense dictates that the length is 7 ft.
