Developing a keen sensitivity to the language, its richness and depth, its subtleties and nuances, its history, its variations, its rules and the beautiful breaking of them. Because that is how poetry is written.
And then being a keen observer: of life, the world, yourself, sensation, experience, emotion, and everything else. Because that is what poetry is about.
