The thermostat's main job is to allow the engine to heat up quickly, and then to keep the engine at a constant temperature. It does this by regulating the amount of water that goes through the radiator. At low temperatures, the outlet to the radiator is completely blocked -- all of the coolant is recirculated back through the engine. Once the temperature of the coolant rises to between 180 and 195 F the thermostat starts to open, allowing fluid to flow through the radiator. By the time the coolant reaches 200 to 218 F, the thermostat is open all the way. It preforms this feat because there is wax inside the thermostat that melts at a preset temperature. If the thermostat is rated at 190 degrees F that is when it opens. That is it's temperature rating.
To make sure that the temperature is at the desired temperature
It depends on what type of car you are working on. all cares have different temperature thermostats. A very common temperature is 195 degrees

The thermostat tries to control the heating and cooling in you home to maintain a comfortable or energy efficient temperature.
The engine thermostat controls the flow of coolant to the radiator , it allows the engine to warm up before the thermostat opens in order to limit the maximum operating temperature.
180
195
If everything else is normal, one way to reduce the engine operating temperature is by changing the stock thermostat to one with a lower temperature rating. This temperature rating is the temperature needed for the thermostat to open which allows the coolant to circulate around the engine.
should be the same temperature as your thermostat rating...generally around 190 to 195 degrees.
Depends on car, example: it could be 180 - 195. There is the rating on thermostat
This depends on the rating of the thermostat. Any where from 165 to 185 degrees is good.
For a 1994 Toyota pickup, it is recommended to use a thermostat with a temperature rating of around 180-190 degrees Fahrenheit. This range is suitable for most engines to operate efficiently and maintain optimal performance. It is important to consult the vehicle's manual or a trusted mechanic to ensure the correct thermostat is selected for the specific engine requirements.
No. The thermostat controls the flow of water through the radiator, not the heating core. Using a thermostat with a higher temperature rating delay the opening of the thermostat (and the flow of water to the radiator) until that higher temperature is reached. This will cause the coolant to run hotter.
Stay at the factory temp.
Engines are designed to operate at a given temperature, without a thermostat the engine will often not get up to the designated temperature. So it needs a thermostat to be sure that the engine will run at its optimum design rating.
To set the temperature on a Honeywell thermostat, press the up or down arrows on the thermostat to adjust the temperature to your desired level.
The furnace kicks on when the temperature drops below the set temperature on the thermostat.
