The individual, or the genes of the individual.

All organisms are variants in phenotype and behavior. So, natural selection is the immediate environment these organisms are in and those that survive and reproduce better in this environment leave more descendants which carry the genes that promoted that survival and reproduction advantage. Then those genes are more represented in the populations gene pool and this is evolution.

Which type of natural selection in which the mean characteristics of a population are preserved?

This type of natural selection is called stabilizing selection because the mean traits of the population are being selected for against the immediate environment.

Artificial selection example?

Think GMO crops. Not natural selection, we selected them artificially

Which does natural selection affect populations or individuals?

Populations evolve, but individuals are selected. Natural selection affects individual organisms.

Example of artificial selection?

How is natural selection used in artificial selection?

Natural variation in artificial selection is used because humans choose from among the naturally occurring variation s in species. Natural selection is related to species fitness because Darwin called natural selection survival of the fittest because those that could survive would carry their species on there for being the naturally selected.

Why has natural selection not made us invulnerable to disease?

Because diseases are being naturally selected to resist attack and be better infectors of humans.

What are some objections to natural selection?

Natural selection does not respect the rights of the individual. If you care for the rights of the individual - your own, for instance - you should avoid being naturally selected against. Fortunately, humans have expanded their control over their environment to such a degree that natural selection no longer has the role in our development that it has for 'wild' life forms. This makes it somewhat easier for us to consider the phenomenon of natural selection from an objective stance.

What does natural selection effect?

The individual organism is selected, or the genes that reside in this individual organism.

Is evolution a natural selection?

Natural selection explains the process of evolution: evolution by natural selection. It basically means that species with the highest fitness (survival rate) will live, and be selected by nature for the characteristics they possess that make them more apt to survive. Because of natural selection, evolution occurs.

Does natural selection cause changes in the environment?

No, natural selection is the environment! The variant organism is selected against the immediate environment where it survives and reproduces better than it's conspecifics.

What does natural selection eliminate from populations?

Natural selection is a term that, if you stated it fully, would say something like "The fittest individuals are naturally selected for reproduction." Unfit organisms do not survive to reproduce and pass on their genes.
