A thin and uniform membrane of polymer is added around the surface of a substrate. There are two types of film coats: non-enteric and enteric coating.

Non-enteric coatings are water-soluble. Examples of non-enteric coating include methycellulose, PVP, PEG, HPMC, and NACMC.

Enteric coatings are resistant to stomach pH yet they are more soluble in alkaline environments. They are often used for drugs which are known to be easily inactivated by stomach acid causing stomach irritation (eg. aspirin). Examples of enteric coating include cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthlate. Solvents used include water, methylene chloride + ethanol, water, acetone, methanol, or isopropanol. Plasticizers such as glycerin or propylene glycol are often added to make the film more flexible by being more resistant to mechanical strength.

Difference between conventional coating and film coating?

The difference between the conventional coating and film coating depends with the material used. The film coating uses a film to coat while the conventional coating does not use any type of material to coat.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of film coating?

Film coating is less time consuming than compression coating as less time is needed to dry the coat. As the coating is thin, its presence will not affect the tablet's weight that much. This method can also be used to create sustained release formulations. However, film coating is quite expensive due to the high cost of the coating material. The quality of the film also has to be monitored to ensure that they are continuous and uniformly thick.

What affects the film coating of drugs?

The temperature, air flow, spray rate, and atomisation pressure affect the film coating of drugs.

What does a emulsion do on a camera?

The emulsion is the coating on a film in which the image is formed.

What does the protective coating on film do?

The protective coating on film provides a barrier against scratches, fingerprints, dust, and other physical damage that could affect the quality of the film. It helps to preserve the longevity and visual quality of the film by reducing wear and tear from regular handling.

How does the process of airbrush sputtering work in creating a thin film coating on surfaces?

Airbrush sputtering is a process where a thin film coating is created on a surface by using a high-energy beam to eject atoms from a target material. These atoms then deposit onto the surface, forming a uniform and durable coating.

What is there to know about carbon film fossils?

It is an extremely thin coating of carbon on rock.

Function of a dip coating tank?

A dip coating tank is used to immerse objects into a liquid coating material to create a thin film on the surface. This method is commonly used for coating items with protective layers, such as paint or varnish, to enhance their durability and appearance. Dip coating tanks are versatile and can be used for various materials and shapes.

How does film record its images?

There is a coating on the film that is sensitive to light. When the camera button is pressed, the shutter opens, allowing light from the subject to fall on the film's surface. this creates the image.

Can a window glass be installed backwards?
