Just a guess but it looks similar to Canada's postal code system. Typically, the letters are shown in capitals, which to my knowledge is not an absolute requirement. The one thing that is missing here however is a space between the 3rd and 4th entries.

ie. h1o 1n1 or usually appearing as such : H1O 1N1
