Nuclear Fission.

Splitting the atom creates masses of energy, so it is done in nuclear power plants which we use to power towns and cities.

Nuclear Fusion is joining two atoms together to form new elements and such. Scientists havent found out how to do this, but it takes place in Supernovas in space.

This is called fission. It is a chain reaction, because this releases neutrons, which can make other fissionable atoms split. Fission is what was used in the early atomic bombs, because this process releases enormous amounts of energy.

A nuclear reaction in which the nuclei of atoms join together is called nuclear fission.true or false?

False. Combining nuclei to form a new nucleus is called nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission is the splitting of an atomic nucleus.

What occurs in nuclear fiusion?

There is no such thing as fiusion. There is fusion and there is fission. fission is when the atoms are spilt apart (like in an atom bomb). fusion is when the atoms are put together (like a hydrogen bomb)

What processes can be used to start a nuclear fission reaction in certain atoms?

Firing a neutron at the nucleus of the atom.

A nuclear reaction in which an atoms nucleus is split into two smaller nuclei and energy is released as heat is known as?

nuclear fission

A reaction in which small nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus?

That is nuclear fission. An example is that of a Uranium-239 atom undergoing beta decay. That is, a neutron in the nucleus ejects and electron, becoming a proton, resulting in Uranium-239 becoming Neptunium-239.

What processes a molecule splits releasing neutrons and energy?

In nuclear fission it is the nucleus of the atom that splits, not a molecule, and this releases neutrons and energy. Reactions at the molecule level are termed chemical reactions, not nuclear, and these chemical reactions involve whole atoms and molecules.

in a nuclear fission reaction, a freely moving neutron is introduced to a nuclear fuel, such as uranium-235. What happens next?

A neutron is absorbed by an atoms nucleus

Radioactive decay is chemical reaction or?

it is type of nuclear reaction because nucleus is involve in this type of reaction while in ordinary chemical reaction only valance electron of atoms involve

Is nuclear fission splitting two atoms apart?

In general, nuclear fission is the splitting of a single atomic nucleus. One atom with an unstable nucleus splits, either spontantously or perhaps because it has absorbed a neutron. Fission is a physics term applied to the action of the splitting of an atom, not the splitting or "separating" of two atoms.

What is the nuclear reaction called when atoms split?

The nuclear reaction when atoms split is called fission. Fission is where atoms split into smaller particles or atoms.

What primary atomic reaction occurs within the sun that converts hydrogen atoms into helium atoms?

Its called as nuclear fusion. The nucleus of hydrogen atoms fuse together and form helium nucleus. There is some difference of the two masses resulting it to become energy by Einstein's formulae e=mc^2
