Difference is the excitation and ionization energy of atoms in the flame, likely fuel atoms, such as propane, and atmospheric atoms, such as oxygen, argon, hydrogen, nitrogen, etc.

In the blue flame, the energy released by the atoms in the flame is more energetic. This is because blue light is of higher energy than red light. Blue light is lower wavelength, higher frequency, and higher energy than red light.

The reverse is true in the red flame, the atoms are not releasing as much energy because red light is of lower energy.

When an atom enters the flame, it absorbs energy thus exciting electrons to higher energy levels (higher than ground state). At this point, the excited atom can simply release this energy as visible or non visible light--and often relax by non-radiative means. Or the atom can lose an electron because the energy absorbed was so high and continue to excite other electrons to other levels and possibly remove a second or third electrons if the flame was energetic enough. In a flame, usually only first ionization and excitation occur. After these electrons are excited to whatever level, they have to release energy. Often, these atoms release this energy, if the energy level correlates, in the form of visible light. Other times, the light is released in non-visible portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The light emitted from a flame is a measure of the energy available in the flame. With a given gas etc. distributions of atoms in excited states can be calculated, after spectra are collected, with the Boltzman equation and for ionization calculations one can use the Saha equation.

What is the difference between red orange yellow green blue indigo violet?

they are different colors you can see :)

What part of the flame is the coolest?

The hottest flame color is white, with the absolute temperature dependent on the fuel/mixture burned. Flame color depends on several factors, the most important typically being blackbody radiation and spectral band emission, with both spectral line emission and spectral line absorption playing smaller roles. In the most common type of flame, hydrocarbon flames, the most important factor determining color is oxygen supply and the extent of fuel-oxygen "pre-mixture", which determines the rate of combustion and thus the temperature and reaction paths, thereby producing different color hues. Generally speaking, the coolest part of a diffusion (incomplete combustion) flame will be red, transitioning to orange, yellow, and white the temperature increases as evidenced by changes in the blackbody radiation spectrum. For a given flame's region, the closer to white on this scale, the hotter that section of the flame is. The transitions are often apparent in TV pictures of fires, in which the color emitted closest to the fuel is white, with an orange section above it, and reddish flames the highest of all. Beyond the red the temperature is too low to sustain combustion, and black soot escapes. A blue/green colored flame only emerges when the amount of soot decreases and the blue emissions from excited molecular radicals become dominant. Specifically, the blue color arises due to emission of excited molecular radicals in the flame, which emit most of their light well below ~565 nanometers in the blue and green regions of the visible spectrum. Yes it is true that white flame is the Hottest but regarding the spectrum of heat we are totally confused. In one direction you are right that the Red is cooler than the Orange , Orange flame is cooler than Yellow and Yellow Flame is cooler than White Flame,But on the other hand the Cyan Flame is cooler than the White , Blue is cooler than Cyan and Violet Flames are cooler than the Blue Flames.Green Flames are the mixture of Cyan and Yellow Flame so the total heat will be in between .It is also true that if you see white flame you will never see Green and if you see Green you will never see White. This is the reason in Black Body radiation you are able to see Green but unable to see White. The White should be placed in between Cyan and Yellow Flame and Green flame is also in between Cyan and Yellow as Green is formed due to the mixture of Cyan and Yellow. You will surprise to know that the white light is not splitting into spectrum,it is the Black color( Darknes /No Light ) around the White light, which is creating spectrum. Please go through my answer in wikianswer regarding "white light splits into seven colours". Thus Black is the coolest one. Here one should know that the extreme white flame is invisible to eyes as the cells of retina are unable to perceive it and you feel darkness around you and same thing is happening with the ultra violet and X rays and Gamma rays.Gamma Rays are nearest to the ultra white flame.Ulra violet rays are not the rays beyond violet rays of spectrum.Ultra violet rays are in between the Cyan and the White flame. You can see the violet flame above the Cyan flames after a gap ( above Cyan flames there is a gap for blue, but here blue is not visible / formed ) ,daily in the gas burner of your Kitchen. It is also true Blue star are hotter than the Red star .To prove make different colored blocks in your computer moniter and convert them into gray scale and now analase them. The color which is nearer to the white scale is the hotter color in terms of Thermal energy and those are nearer to the black scale are cooler one. You will find that the Green is hotter than the Red and Blue ,but light Blue is hotter than the Red.Dark Blue is cooler than the Red. In Human, Psychlogy is involved with the color therefore the meaning of the color changes but still it can be explained.Red is related to Blood so Red is considered as Furious color.White stands for Purity..no dust ,no particle ,no color means pure / Clean. Red , Blue are best visible color in white light which you compare with Black in White. Thus in few countries the Bridal dress is Red so that the Bride should be visible more in the crowd ( and crowd is not wearing Red ).You will find that for the vision the contrast is followed everywhere.

Does blue fire mean it's the hottest or coldest or electric?

Blue light is of a higher energy than red light. That means that the fire with the blue light is hotter, as the fire must generally be hotter to generate the blue light. For example, in a gas flame, the blue, which is hottest, is in the middle, and any yellow, orange or red is around the outside.

What is red-orange blue-green yellow-green etc?

The colors in your question are halfway between the major colors. For example, red-orange is halfway between pure red and pure orange.

What is the average temperature of the flame of the candle?

Depending on the wax, and the concentrations of water of oxygen in the air, somewhere between 1,200 degrees and 1,700 degrees Celsius. The heat capacity and conductivity of air and the exhaust products of combustion, however, are both very low. In practice, candle flames do not seem very hot (much like metal feels colder than wood at room temperature, though they are the same temperature). The outer core of the candle flame is light blue -- 1670 K (1400 °C). That is the hottest part of the flame. The color inside the flame becomes yellow, orange and finally red. The further you reach to the center of the flame, the lower the temperature will be. The red portion is around 1070 K (800 °C). The reason there is this variation in a candle's flame color is because air convection pulls the warmer gasses upwards.

Does a red flame indicate a low energy?

A red flame has a lower energy than a blue flame, if the color arises from the photon radiation of the flame itself due to the flame's temperature. However, some inorganic ions emit red light when introduced into blue flames, and this kind of red flame does not necessarily have a lower energy than the original blue flame.
