Nobody know for sure how gravity works, but the most commonly accepted theory is Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Einstein's theory states that spacetime can be distorted. (Spacetime is usually interpreted with space being 3-d consisting of length width and height and time being the fourth dimension.) Any object with a mass curves spacetime. The greater the mass of an object, the more it distorts spacetime. You can think of it as a Basketball and a Bowling ball both on a bed, the bowling ball will obviously sink more into the bed.

Because the spacetime around an object curves around it, other objects will experience a pull by the curvature that the object has formed. For this reason, we experience a pull towards the centre of the Earth and the Earth experiences a pull from the Sun.

Explain how a parachute works using the terms air resistance surface area and gravity?

A parachute works as the gravity allows the parachute to go up into the air, then the surface area is covered with air resistance.

How old was isaac newton when he came up with the name 'gravity'?

He didn't. The word gravity was in use in the English language by about 200 years before Newton developed his theory of gravity. People already knew that gravity made objects fall, Newton just gave a highly accurate insight into how gravity works. Newton was 44 years old when he published is Principia in which He laid out his theory. These are his main contributions:described gravity as an attractive force between all objects with mass that is directly proportional to the objects and inversely proportional to the square of their distances. He proposed that gravity not only made objects fall on Earth but was the attractive force that kept the various celestial objects in their orbits.Newton's formulation of gravity is so accurate that it is even used to plot the trajectories of spacecraft. It is only in instances of extreme speed or density or when extreme precision is needed that scientists must use general relativity to describe gravity.

What is the specific gravity for aluminum?

Aluminum has no specific gravity, at least by the current definition of gravity.

How are gravity and weight related?

weight is the effect caused by gravity. if gravity increases, so does your weight!

What force works with gravity to keep the planets from being pulled into the sun?

That's "centrifugal force". It's not a "real" force like gravity, but is a convenient way of describing the effect of the inertia of the planets. (The planets would move in straight lines if they were not in a gravity field.)

Any upward force works against gravity, since they act in opposite directions.

Why doesn't the force of gravity work on planes?

It does. Gravity works on all matter

Is earths magnetic field caused by gravity?

It isnt. Two different forces; gravity and magnetism. As for how gravity works; all objects have their own "gravity", the bigger they are, the more gravitational pull they have. Why gravity works; nobody knows or we would all have flying cars.
