"Glastic" is a term often used in materials science to describe a type of composite material that combines glass and plastic properties. It typically refers to materials that exhibit the durability and lightweight characteristics of plastics while incorporating the strength and transparency of glass. The term can also be applied in various contexts, including architecture and design, where such materials are utilized for their aesthetic and functional qualities.
The most familiar type of glass, used for centuries in windows and glass cups, is soda-lime glass. The materials include 75% silica (SiO2) plus Na2O, CaO, and several minor additives.
Tempered glass and standard annealed glass are made the same way. The difference is in the cooling process. Tempered is cooled very quickly. This produces a stronger glass. Annealed is cooled slowly, producing a strong glass, but not as strong as tempered. When annealed glass breaks it will break or crack at the location of impact relative to the force of the impact. The broken shards can be of varying sizes. When tempered glass breaks it just shatters entirely into small pieces. The smaller pieces are safer and thus are used in places where safety would be an issue. One issue with tempered glass is that it cannot be drilled. This is a byproduct of its shattering quality. Annealed glass can be drilled, provided the proper tools and procedures are used.
Different kinds of waste can be used in different ways. Rotting vegetables can be composted and become fertilizer for a future gardening year. Sometimes materials from a torn-down building can be used as part of a new structure. Glass and plastic can be melted and used to make new glass or plastic items. Swarovski makes the finest crystals in the world. Swarovski crystals undergo the most intense production process possible leaving them flawless in every way. Their crystals are used for items such as jewelry and chandelier ceiling pendants. See their website or crystal information below.
The different types of materials used for window glass panes include float glass, tempered glass, laminated glass, and low-emissivity glass.
Swarovski crystals are a branded type of lead crystal that is made primarily of glass and lead and may also be coated with other materials. When comparing crystals to diamonds, they are commonly referred to as a diamond simulant. Simulants may look similar to a diamond, but do not possess the same properties. A diamond is formed from carbon and has a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale -- the hardest. Lead crystal is graded around 6-7, though both can scratch glass.
Materials that can be used instead of glass for picture frames include acrylic, plexiglass, and polycarbonate.

Eyeglasses are made with materials such as metal and glass. The glass is the most important part of the glasses as they form the lens which the glasses are used for.
