I would probably use a "tape measure", like what carpenters use. One could use a yardstick (or similarly, a meterstick), but a yardstick is a fixed length of 3 feet, sometimes with a little extra at the ends, so it could be awkward to measure the classroom if it's length was not an exact multiple of 3 feet.
A carpenter's "tape measure" has a flexible metal strip that can be extended out to the full length...they come very short (6') and quite long...I have found a 25' tape measure to be quite useful.
OR...you could buy a 'laser' tape measure, that bounces a beam of light off the far wall and computes what the distance is....but a tape measure would work just fine!
Rulers, tape measures, calipers.
the tool used to measure a area is a tape measure
A tape measure would be the tool, measuring in centimetres or inches.
I would find a ruler, a tape measure, or a micrometer, and use it to measure the maximum distance between any two points on the quarter's circumference. Having that number, I would then examine the tool to determine what system of units forms the basis of its graduations. If that system is any other than the English system of units, I would then apply the appropriate conversion factor that relates the English units of length to those of the system indicated on the tool.

A ruler or tape measure.
The answer depends on what characteristic the tool is used to measure.
a tape measure
To measure the length of a hallway, you would typically use a measuring tool such as a tape measure or a measuring wheel. Start at one end of the hallway and extend the measuring tool to the other end, ensuring it is straight and taut for an accurate measurement. Record the measurement in the appropriate units, such as feet or meters, to determine the length of the hallway.

A scientist would typically use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the length of a fish. They would place the measuring tool along the fish from the tip of its mouth to the end of its tail to get an accurate measurement.
