To my current knowledge, Stephen Hawking is considered to be the "smartest person on Earth". He was born January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England in the United Kingdom. Hawking is also unable to speak upon his verbal command, thus he must converse by the use of a computer. He is incapable of walking as well; he must use a wheelchair.

Hawking spent thirty years as the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, retiring on October 1, 2009. He is also a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and a Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario. He is known for his work in the fields of cosmology and quantum mechanics, especially concerning black holes. Hawking's key scientific works to date have included providing theorems regarding singularities and general relativity, along with his prediction that black holes should emit radiation, which is today known as Hawking radiation.

One interesting thing about Stephen is his belief in the existence of extraterrestrial life. He is almost certain that alien life exists in other parts of the universe and uses a mathematical basis for his assumptions. He believes alien life not only certainly exists, but he also warns that a few of these species might be intelligent and threaten Earth. Contact with such species might be devastating for humanity. He thinks that rather than try to establish contact, man should try to avoid contact with alien life forms.

Hawking has a neuro-muscular dystrophy that is related to ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a condition that has progressed over the years and has left him almost completely paralysed. Stephen communicates using a voice synthesizer as he is unable to speak due to his illness. Although the synthesizer is outdated, he chooses to keep it as he feels it is identified with him and he says he has not found another voice he likes.
