What is the main reason why the percentages of gasses in the atmosphere are different from the percentages of gasses that are dissolved in the ocean?

The solubility of each gas in water is different.

Do neon lights have gas?

Neon is one of the noble gases - helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon. Gas discharge lights, commonly called neon lights, will produce different colors depending on which gas is used. Neon itself produces an orange light. The Wikipedia entry ' Noble Gas' has a nice illustration near the end showing the colors produced by each of the above gases

What is chromotology?

chromatology is the study of colors, and can be used in various different fields.A similar term is chromatography. It is a method of separating a solution into its constituent components by altering the speed at which different portions of the compound move through a substrate.A subset of chromatography is gas chromatography which is used to determine the relative quantities of components in a solution.

Why can neon lights glow in different colors?

The vivid colors seen in advertising lights are the result of different neon gases that each tube contains. Different gases burn at various temperatures resulting in these colors. For example magnesium produces the bright white color light.

What is the difference between incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs?

Incandescent lightbulbs have an electrical circuit that passes through a tungsten wire. As the electricity flows, the tungsten is heated up to a point where it emits light waves. Gases (xenon, I think) help sustain the wire until it breaks. This is when the light stops and needs to be replaced. (the tungsten also emits heat when lit) Incandescent lights have the full spectrum of colors. Fluorescent bulbs are filled with a gas and a bit of mercury. Electricity gives the ions in the gas energy, which is released in the form of light. This method sustains the bulb far longer than an incandescent lightbulb. Fluorescents release much less heat, making them more energy efficient. However, the spectrum of the fluorescent bulb is missing a few colors of the spectrum, which makes the spectrum look cool and incredibly weird.A fluorescent lamp or fluorescent tube is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor. The excited mercury atoms produce short-wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating on the inside of the bulb to fluoresce (glow), producing visible light.

Why is the gas phase spectrum of benzene different from the liquid phase?

In the gas phase, benzene molecules act independently. Benzene molecules in the liquid phase are closer together than in the gas phase. They interact with each other and alter the molar absorptivity values. This causes the sharp peaks of the gas phase spectrum to broaden. Collisional broadening is also a factor in the liquid phase as well.

How can you use information about gas to know the colors of the universe?

We do know the colors of the universe; the human eye only sees certain colors, which are found in the spectrum, in various combinations. There are also electromagnetic frequencies which the human eye does not see, which could be described as invisible colors, but we have devices which can make those visible as well. Color is not really about gas specifically, although it is true that glowing, high temperature gas (or plasma) in stars makes them visible and produces colors.

What is a line spectrum used for?

The line spectrum is usually used to sort out the atomic fingerprint as the gas emit light at very specific frequencies when exposed to the electromagnetic waves. The electromagnetic waves are usually displayed in form of the spectral lines.

How does a prism separate white light into ROY G BIV?

Passing a current through hydrogen gas causes a purplish glow, which passes light through a prism separating the different colors into a line emission spectrum.
