There were three basic states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. As we understood more about the nature of the world and how things in it worked, we saw that the three states of matter were basically a function of temperature. But at elevated temperatures, the term "gas" doesn't really apply. We had to think of something else, and plasma was the name we applied as a logical extension of the other three states of matter. We needed a fourth state of matter to describe things on the sun or in an electric arc. Atoms stripped of some or all of their electrons and existing without them owing to extrordinarily high temperatures (energies) are in a state called a plasma. Wikipedia has additional information on this state of matter, and a link is provided.

What state of matter makes up 99 percent of all matter?

The most common state of matter in the universe is plasma. Plasma is a state of matter which consists of ionized gas. Although this phase of matter is rare in on earth, it makes up stars and is widespread throughout the universe.

Most common state of matter on Earth?

the Earth has 3 main layers the Atmosphere, Crust, and Mantle/Core the Atmosphere is made up of mostly gas the Crust is made up of (mostly) solids and the Mantle/Core is filled mainly with liquid metals

Can plasma and BEC change into other state of matter?

plasma is most likely to be there in the space. so it cannot undergo to any states of matter as it is considered as a state of matter. coming to Bose Einstein condensate(BEC) it undergoes to it stse when the gas is cooled to lower and lower temperature.

Which phase or state of matter has the most kinetic energy?

The physical state, or phase, that has the greatest kinetic energy is gas. In a gas, the molecules are more free to move and they move more rapidly than in the other phases, and it is this motion that constitutes kinetic energy.

What is a highly compressible state of matter?

Of the various states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas being the most common here on Earth; if we include stars, plasma is the most common state, and then there are exotic states such as degenerate matter in neutron stars) gas is the most compressible. In a gas, the particles are relatively far apart, they are not connected to each other or in contact with each other in any way, and they can all move freely, so that when you compress a gas, the constituent particles (atoms or molecules) can be easily squeezed into a smaller space, without breaking any chemical bonds.

How is plasma the most common state of matter?

Because most of the matter is packed into stars, which is plasma.

What is the most common state of matter in the universe solid a liquid and gas or plasma?

Because out in space their is a "thing" i guess you would call it, called black matter which makes up 98% of the universes matter and it is in a plasma state

false.

What is bous ineshtien condensation?

bous ineshtien condensation the fifth state of matter, this state of matter is the most common-plasma and the most common-solid of matter....

What is the fourth and most common state of matter in the universe?

The fourth state of matter is plasma. It is the most common state in the universe, making up stars like the sun and other celestial bodies. Plasma is a highly energized state of matter in which atoms are split into their constituent particles, resulting in a mix of positively charged ions and negatively charged electrons.

What The most common state of matter in the universe is?

Plasma. That's ignoring "dark matter", because we don't yet know what that is.

Why is TV plasma the most common phase of matter in the universe?

Television plasma is not the most common phase of matter in the universe. It is merely a superior means of showing high definition television.

What is the state of most of the matter is the universe?

The most common type of energy/mass in the Universe is in the form of dark energy, followed by dark matter. Only about 4% of the Universe is in the form of "normal" (baryonic) matter. If it is specifically to this matter you refer: the most common state of matter is plasma, found in stars.

What state if matter is most energetic?

Plasma

Which state of matter is the most common in the universe and its electrons can escape and move outside the ion's electron cloud?

plasma

Is plasma a long-lasting state?

No, plasma is not a long-lasting state. It is highly energetic and tends to revert back to a gas state when the energy source that ionized it is removed. Plasma is the most common state of matter in the universe, existing in stars and ionized gases.
