no electric charge. the nuclear theory at the time explained the atomic masses by assuming the nucleus contained a number of protons equal to the Atomic Mass number and enough electrons to cancel the charge beyond that of the atomic number of the element.

The neutron is harder to detect, because of its lack of electric charge.

What is martinium?

Martinium is a fictional element discovered in the webcomic "Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal". It was discovered by a husband and wife team, with the last name of Martinez.

What is the most metallic element on the planet?

The most metallic element on the planet is Francium. It is the last element to be discovered that was not made synthetically.

How do the scientists study the universe?

The universe can be explored by astronomical instruments called telescopes, and by space probes sent from earth to other planets. When using telescopes astronomers try to look at the energy being produced by the universe not just in the visible part of the spectrum (where our eyes can see) but at the whole range of electromagnetic radiation. We thus have radio telescopes, infrared telescopes, X-ray telescopes and even some telescopes that are buried deep underground looking for neutrinos. I would like to add one more additional method for investigating universe, it just appeared in my brain.well the method is being used in large hadron collider(which is a particle collider), in which smallest particle of any atom are collided at very high speed.it tells us about the born of the universe, dat how did it happen. They say "At Cern, the Large Hadron Collider could recreate conditions that last prevailed when the universe was less than a trillionth of a second old. It has massive particle detectors called the Compact Muon Solenoid."

Can last be used as an adverb?

Yes. Last is an adjective and an adverb as well as a noun and verb. An example is "At the party, Bill arrived last."

How long does a drought last?

Who discovered the last subatomic particles?

If you think to particles in the atom: the neutron was discovered in 1932 by James Chadwick.

Why was the neutron the last of the three sub-atomic particles to be discovered?

This discovery was more difficult because neutron has not an electrical charge.

Who discovered each particle of the atom?

The electron was discovered by J.J. Thompson. Simply, he used a Cathode ray tube and magnetic fields to "bent" the flow of particles. He also determined the mass to charge ratio of the electron, thus proving it to be less massive (and a component) of the atom. By extension, as electrons were negative and matter is generally neutral, he knew that there must be something positive inside the atom to balance the charge. He came up with the plumb pudding model of the atom. The proton was discovered by Ernest Rutherford. He bombarded a sheet of gold foil with alpha particles, and found that the majority of these particles passed through (thus disproving the plumb pudding model) while very few were radically deflected or reflected. The neutron was discovered by James Chadwick. His experiment was a variation on that used by Irene Curie and her husband involving polonium and alpha radiation. The discovery of each of the three basic particles that make up the atom is take up by three separate questions - one for each one. All there questions are listed in the related questions area below, and they are links to those questions.

Who is the discoverer of neutrons?

The British experimental physicist James Chadwickdiscovered the neutron in 1932. Of the three fundamental particles that make up atoms, the electron, the proton and the neutron, the neutron was the last to be discovered. It's lack of a charge made it more elusive than its companions. Links can be found below. The existence of a "neutral element" within the atom was suggested by Ernest Rutherford in 1920 and was proposed by Santiago Antunez de Mayolo at the Third Scientific Pan-American Congress in 1924.(see related links)James Chadwick 1932In 1920 by Ernest Rutherford

What does the subatomic particle do?

Protons and neutrons are the components of the atomic nucleus; the number of protons is equal to the atomic number, the most important parameter for a chemical element. Electrons surround the nucleus and are responsible (the last level) for the chemical properties of elements.

What was the last part of the atom to be discovered?

an electrons and protons were theorised in the late 1800's and proved shortly after, so its not those, most recent discovery's have been Quarks, Leptons, and Gauge Bosons. to my knowledge these were all theorised around the 1960's and have pretty much all been officially discovered now. the most recent being the Tau Neutrino in 2000. still a few of the Theorised particles to find though, with the Higgs-Boson being the most famous of the elusive particles. now that the LHC is completed, and only repair bills getting in the way, hopefully there should be some new ones to add to the list pretty soon

John A. Davis , the creator , gave Jimmy the last name of Neutron to give the audience some expectation/association of science . The surname of Quasar was also considered as a surname for Jimmy .

Are there subatomic black holes?

That is not currently known. According to some theories in particle physics, that certainly seems to be a possibility. Such a black hole would presumably not last long; specifically, if one were to be created in a laboratory, it is likely to evaporate before it can cause major damage (i.e., destroy Earth).
