According to the "Population Clock" there were 7.2 billion at the beginning of 2014. The US Census Bureau figures are lower by approximately 100 million, due to different estimation methods.

The "Population Clock" estimates how many people are in the world now, and you also can browse back in time, by up to 30 years. You can also see estimates for the population in the future.

The world population increases by more than 200,000 people per day.

NOTE: It is true that there is no way to know *exactly* how many people there are in the world at any given time. The Census (US, UK, and other countries) provides us with estimates of current and future population. With this estimate we can form an idea or a picture of the population.
