The Aztecs were guided by their deity Huitzilopochtli, who instructed them to establish their city where they saw an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake. This vision is now depicted on the Mexican flag.
The Aztecs began their migration from Aztlan in the early 13th century, around 1168 AD according to Aztec mythology. They traveled from northern Mexico to Central Mexico in search of their prophesied homeland where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak.
Legends say that the Aztecs were sent a message from the gods that the place that they should settle was where they would see a snake and and eagle fighting on a water cactus, which is the picture depicted on the Mexico flag. This place ended up being Lake Texcoco, where Tenochtitlan was born.
A synonym for city-state would be a sovereign city-state, or a self-governing city-state.
The South American capital city that means "you see a hill" is Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. It comes from the Portuguese and Spanish words "monte" and "video," which together mean "I see a hill."

It is an ancient city and ruins located on the outskirts of Mexico City. Commonly mistaken for being built by the Aztecs, it rose some 1000 years before, and abandoned at least 150 years before Aztecs arrived to the Mexico City valley in 1325. Teotihuacan was named by the Aztecs, meaning "City of the Gods". The real name of the civilization that built such monumental city is unknown, and it is believed it was destroyed by Olmec raids during the 7th to 10th century, A.D. See the related links section for some pictures of the ruins.
A joke about the Aztecs that is short and sweet goes like this: "The Aztecs predicted the 2012 Apocalypse? That's funny, because they sure didn't see the Spanish coming."
um let me see... the used yurmom
Although many think of ancient Mexico as part of only one civilization (the Aztecs), in reality most of Mexico was composed by many groups and tribes from which the Aztecs were the most powerfull. Therefore, besides Aztecs there were Mayans, Chontales, Otomies, Toltecs, Tlaxcaltecs, etc.So, the Aztecs were one of many warring states, and Cortez took advantage of such division to conquer them. For example, the most important allies to Cortez were the Tlaxcaltecs, who owned part of what today is known as Puebla (some 80 miles southeast of Mexico City).See http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tlaxcaltec for more information.

The Aztecs initially viewed the Spanish as powerful and god-like beings due to their advanced technology and weaponry. However, as the Spanish began to conquer and colonize their land, the Aztecs came to see them as ruthless invaders and oppressors.
Think, then see if you still need too ask that question.
Well it depends if we have a heaven or not, so we would have to figure out first, if we have a god or not to see if the Aztecs have a god or not, but I would answer yes because they have billions of gods now and back then.
