In very short summary : There were a war between Italy - Ottoman Empire and with Treaty of Lausanne, Ottoman Empire lost the control of 12 islands on Aegean Sea. During post World War II British military control took over the islands from Italy and eventually Britain and Greece signed a treaty as giving islands control to Greece.

However islands can be seen from Turkey's sides clearly.
