A notable geographer was Larry R Ford. He was ranked one of the top 100 urban geographers for the last quarter century. "Larry received numerous awards for his teaching, writing and service. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Larry's sense of humor and his famous puns endeared him to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students." (Blanca Gonzalez). Dr. Ford had many impacts on the world and these are a few of them.

Dr. Ford was an amazing geographer who had a significant economical impact on the world. He wrote many books explaining to people the economical situation their area is in. For example in his book: A Model of Indonesian City Structure, he described that some of the geography happened like it did because of their economic levels. "Planned suburbs for middle-income groups are a relatively recent phenomenon in Indonesia, simply because this economic level was very limited." (Larry R. Ford, geographer) Explaining to people that the reason they are where they are because of economics makes people stop and think about just spending the money they do.

Social impacts were also a big part of his works. He discovered in his studies that the geography of a place impacts who lives there and the culture of that place. Native American culture is ushered in by the installation of Indian Casinos that bring together people and create the unique characters of that city or small region. Bringing casinos into an area changes the geography of that place. This is because the casinos bring in more people so more buildings are built to accommodate them and more jobs are needed so more shops open. Building a casino is like a domino effect on the social and geographic impacts of that area.
