I obtained my SS when working on an L1 visa in 2004 and after a year no longer worked in the U.S. I just spoke with Social Security representative (05/18/09) and, they quickly confirmed my number was valid and active.
I think the only way is to get a letter from the place you will start to work that says you are working for them and you are an employee with insurance and a salary. I think you might not be able to get it from a gas station or likewise, but better ask them. But I know for a fact that it is illegal to work with a tourist visa, your tourist visa will be revoked, you will be deported and your employer will pay fines if caught.
Yes, you can go to school part-time as long as you maintain your L1 status. L2 dependants can study full-time.
Hi I highly doubt that you would get a Visa with a drug history. There is a lot of talk in the Forii all over the web, and it seems like the success rate is very very low. Many ppl just go on the Visa waiver on good luck, most succeed some get send back. Me personaly wouldn't risk it. Nor do I advice it. Try its not unheared of to get a visa. Personally had a run in with the law, was honest about it got a B visa. Later on a L1. Try it, better be honest.
Officially it says 3% of population is Muslim i.e US Citizen. If you include Immigrants (greencards) plus non-immigrants (F1 student visa, h1/L1 work visa) who applied for citizenship. Then it will be 5 to 7% of US population is Muslim.
