The words 'I' and 'me' are the first person singular pronouns; words that take the place of the name of the speaker. The pronoun 'I' is used only for the subject of a sentence or clause and the pronoun 'me' is used only for the object of a verb or a preposition. Examples:

"I would like to return the gift you gave to me."

"I understand you are trying to help me."

"I don't get why this is always happening to me."

whilst these are fundamentally correct....the first two should have that included e.g

I would like to return the gift that you gave to me ..............and
I understand that you are trying to help me........just sounds better

I feel hurt when somebody insults me.
